repeatafterme
By Jörg Piringer
RepeatAfterMe lets the visitors record the act of typing as a timed sequence of sound and visual typographic events. the recorded sequence can be easily distributed and played back again by other visitors of the work.
RepeatAfterMe is like much of Piringer’s other work – interactive, with an emphasis on typography and sound. With this work interaction takes the form of typing, which in turn produces reductive audio and animated typography. Though we may see parallels between this work and “text to speech” applications, with RepeatAfterMe the effect is not a coherent audible simulation of the words that the user has typed. Rather, RepeatAfterMe produces a semantic breakdown in which the alphabetical characters are made irreducible with their abstract phonemes.
